A committee of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners in a split vote Thursday delayed for at least a week a special request by the director of the roads to immediately approve a more than $1-million contract to renovate the department’s offices.

The board voted 7-6 to deny an immediate, full-board approval of the deal and instead punted the issue to next Thursday’s full-board meeting after commissioners expressed concerns about whether Facilities & Operations endorsed the project, the timing of the request and whether the project should be put on hold and wait for the outcome of a 10-month space-and-needs assessment of all county facilities, which is expected to receive final approval next Thursday.
