An end of an era has come for a former Mt Hawthorn hotel on Scarborough Beach road as it ditches its hotel status for a tavern licence.

City of Vincent staff recommended the council approve the change with conditions on patron numbers and opening hours.

The venue, which is now known as the Paddington Ale House, will continue to operate 6am to midnight Mondays to Saturdays and 10am to midnight Sundays.

The maximum capacity of 470 people will be maintained and no new works or changes to parking are proposed.

The council voted unanimously at its meeting on Tuesday night to approve the licence change.
