On Thursday evening, Sept. 11, the Monroe County Sheriff's Department hosted its first spaghetti fundraiser for the Victim Services Unit. According to Sheriff Troy Goodnough, the event raised more than $13,000 through pre-ordered tickets and donations from sponsors before they had even opened the doors.

The Victim Services Unit is a group of volunteers who specialize in helping people in the aftermath of a crisis. Goodnough provided this example: if someone is the victim of domestic violence and has nowhere to go, the Victim Services Unit can use the money so they can stay in a hotel for a while.
