COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — The man who abducted an elderly Coventry woman and tried to strangle her to death was sentenced to serve 45 years in prison on Friday.

Steven Henning pleaded guilty in June to charges including kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree robbery, and assault on a person over 60 resulting in serious bodily injury.

He was sentenced to 55 years in prison with 35 to serve, plus an additional 10 years for being a habitual offender.

In August 2024, Henning was in Ohio and allegedly assaulted his girlfriend at the time. He then stole a family member's car and fled, ending up in Woonsocket.
