Sorry to pile it on, but here’s some more unpleasant news: Dozens of personal-care products, including hand and body washes, lotions, and sanitizers, have been recalled because they could cause sepsis. While DermaRite Industries initially recalled a number of its products in mid-July due to potential bacteria contamination, the health-hygiene company expanded the voluntary recall to include 32 of its offerings on August 27 “out of an abundance of caution.”

The bacteria in question is called Burkholderia cepacia complex, or Bcc, and is often found in soil, water, and plants. It can cause serious infections in those who are immunocompromised or deal with lung diseases, especially cystic fibrosis.
