The La Center School District and its teachers union reached a tentative contract agreement Thursday evening.

Superintendent Peter Rosenkranz announced the agreement in a Facebook post at about 6:30 p.m. La Center Education Association leaders scheduled a ratification vote Friday.

The La Center Education Association went on strike Sept. 3, one week after school started . Bargaining for a new contract began in February.

Union members were previously seeking the full amount of cost-of-living funds recommended by the state for each year of their contract. However, the state funds are determined by a formula — estimating staffing, not actual school staff levels — so the district would have to fund that gap .
