Millions of Australians are signed up to airline loyalty schemes, but a new global ranking has found they're getting poorer value than travellers overseas.

The annual list by rewards search platform point.me analysed 59 programs worldwide across eight categories including seat availability, booking fees, overall value and customer service.

Air France's KLM Flying Blue took out first place, followed by American Airlines AAdvantage and Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan.

No Australian airline made the top 10, despite Qantas and Virgin Australia's frequent flyer schemes having a combined 30 million members.

The Qantas Frequent Flyer program climbed seven places to 17th place but was still rated "poor" for redemption rates, while Virgin Australia's Velocity program wasn't included in the ranking
