Students gathered outside the union at the University of Pittsburgh on Friday morning for a vigil for Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was assassinated Wednesday afternoon at a college campus in Utah.

Two days after Mr. Kirk was shot and killed at Utah Valley University, officials announced they had arrested a suspect, according to the Associated Press.

At around 11 a.m. Friday, dozens of students stood on the patio of the William Pitt Union to honor a man widely credited for leading a movement of young conservatives. One student wrapped himself in an American flag, as another clutched a Bible against her chest.

“We are here to mourn the loss of Charlie Kirk, a man who inspired an entire generation of young people to stand up and voice their beliefs,” Julia Cassidy, a junior
