ATHENS, Ga. — Young admirers of GOP influencer Charlie Kirk say they're horrified by his killing on Wednesday – and by the harsh tone of political rhetoric that turns Americans against each other.

"He was a big impact on my life," said Carter Sampson, a University of Georgia sophomore from Calhoun, adding he was still badly shaken by Kirk's killing. Sampson is the membership director of UGA's College Republicans, which boasts that they are the nation's largest campus Republican group.

"The lessons you can pull from Charlie Kirk-- not only is he respectful in his dialogue, but he also encourages being well educated," Sampson said.

Kirk died from sniper fire during an outdoor event on Wednesday at a college campus in Utah.
