Route 220 in Liberty was closed at around 2:11 p.m. Friday afternoon after a tractor-trailer caught fire.

No one was injured in the fire, which started after the truck’s driver noticed fuel leaking out of the moving vehicle and pulled over. Firefighters were still cleaning up the scene as of 2:54 p.m., according to Waldo County dispatcher Holden Doyon.

The fire started in the vicinity of the intersection of routes 220 and 105, which is where the road was closed.

“The scene is stable. We’re just doing cleanup at this point,” Doyon said. “The right people are there doing their jobs.”

The closure was expected to last until at least 3:45 p.m., Doyon said. A detour is now in place.

Firefighters from Liberty, Montville and Washington assisted at the scene.
