An El Monte police officer shot and killed a man, suspected of assaulting his girlfriend at a gas station, after his car collided with patrol cars on Thursday night, Sept. 11, authorities said.
Police didn’t find a gun or knife on the suspect who they described as a 26-year-old El Monte man.
The girlfriend was injured in the assault and hospitalized, while the officer was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries then released, according to a police statement.
Police received several calls just after 10:30 p.m. about a domestic violence happening at the Route 66 Gas station at 12269 Garvey Ave.
When officers arrived, the suspect’s car collided with their patrol cars and one officer fired, the statement said.
