MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A Monroe man was arrested this week after being accused of shooting into a car outside of a local tobacco and vape shop.

Monroe Police says that at approximately 8:12 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a report of shots fired at City Discount Tobacco and Vape on Walkup Avenue.

They determined that a verbal altercation occurred inside the business. During the dispute, one individual retrieved a handgun and chased two others outside before firing shots into their vehicle as they fled.

Officers identified the alleged shooter as 18-year-old Uteak Akale Chambers. That afternoon, the Monroe Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Unit went to Cotton Street to serve the warrant. As detectives approached, Chambers reportedly fled on foot.
