The Oregon Health Authority has lifted a public health advisory for contact with ocean water at Nye Beach in Lincoln County.
The advisory was issued on Sept. 10 after samples showed elevated levels of fecal bacteria in ocean waters.
Results from follow-up tests taken by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality showed bacteria levels have gone down, meaning contact with ocean water no longer poses a higher-than-normal risk.
Exposure to fecal bacteria can cause skin rashes, diarrhea, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses.
Officials recommend staying out of large pools on the beach that are frequented by birds, as these pools and their runoff may contain increased bacterial levels.
