CONCORD, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Gruesome images invaded our lives and social media feeds this week. It started with the light rail stabbing video release on Friday, followed five days later by Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

Rebekah Collins is a mental health educator in the Charlotte region. She said videos like these take a toll on our health.

“Our brains were not meant to consume so much content from around the world, around the United States, even around the state 24/7,” Collins said. “Our bodies view content like that as vicarious trauma. We don’t have a filter in our brains where we’re able to see if this is something we’re experiencing right in front of us or on a screen.”

Political unrest on the internet only keeps cycling in our feeds.
