MEBANE, N.C. — Two people were taken into custody Thursday morning after becoming involved in a high-speed chase with Mebane police officers that ended in Durham.

According to the Mebane Police Department, officers attempted a traffic stop on a silver van they believed possibly held breaking and entering suspects on Spring Forest Drive in Mebane. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver "refused to comply and fled at a high rate of speed."

Officers pursued the vehicle from Mebane into Durham, where the vehicle eventually came to a stop in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn located at 1915 North Pointe Drive in Durham. After the car stopped, the driver attempted to flee on foot, while the passenger remained inside the vehicle.
