BAXTER — Chick-fil-A expects to be open by late summer next year.

The redevelopment of the former Bill’s Shooting Range site into the popular restaurant chain in Baxter was before the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday, Sept. 9, and should go before the Baxter City Council on Sept. 16.

Conditional use permits were approved for the restaurant drive-thru, which will be a different option in the Brainerd and Baxter area, and for joint access with Kohl’s, which is the adjoining property owner.

Plans are to demolish the shooting range, along Excelsior Road between Fleet Farm and Kohl’s, and build the restaurant at the same site. The Chick-fil-A is expected to be smaller than the current gun range, which is no longer in use.
