Brockville police say they are working in collaboration with local agencies to clear two encampments of homeless people in the city – and are urging the public not to jump to conclusions.

The Brockville Police Service issued a media statement mid-Friday-afternoon, following a meeting with local agencies, including the John Howard Society.

The statement referred to “considerable public discussion and concern regarding the police response to encampments.”

“Unfortunately, much of this discourse includes misinformation and misunderstandings,” said police.

The statement added that city police do not initiate, “or independently engage in,” closing homeless encampments.
