With regular starting quarterback Brock Purdy dealing with toe and left shoulder injuries, the San Francisco 49ers are officially going to start Mac Jones against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday in the Caesars Superdome.

Purdy played each of the 49ers' 76 offensive snaps last week against Seattle, but he did not practice this week. It's possible this is the first of several games he has to sit out.

That is potentially a big boon for the Saints, who now get to face Jones, the 2021 first-rounder who is trying to revive his career with his third NFL franchise.

This will mark Jones' 50th career start, but his first appearance with San Francisco. He spent the first four years of his career with the New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars, struggling since a strong rookie season.
