SAINT PAUL, Minn. (GRAY) - As Minnesota’s legislative leaders entered into a closed-door meeting with the governor to negotiate details of an upcoming special session on gun control, one face was noticeably missing from the fray.

Former DFL House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman was shot and killed at her home in June in a targeted act of political violence. The shooting took place shortly after a special session to finish the state’s biennial budget.

Tuesday’s meeting marked the first time leaders had gathered to discuss details of a special session since June, meaning it was also the first such meeting without Hortman.
