The Republican-controlled Missouri State Senate advanced a congressional map likely to net the party an additional U.S. House seat next year, echoing changes enacted in Texas last month.

The new plan, which will eliminate a seat held by the Democrats since 1949, will now go to Republican Governor Mike Kehoe, who said he will sign it into law soon.

President Donald Trump applauded the move, writing on Truth Social, "Thank you very much to the Great State of Missouri for the Redistricting which will, hopefully, give us an additional Seat in Congress!"
