ALBION, Wash. — This summer, volunteers rescued more than 130 dogs from a severe hoarding situation in Albion.
The dogs arrived in "heartbreaking conditions," said Keira Caessens from Albion's code enforcement office. All of the dogs were covered in fleas, matted fur and hair and feces. Most had rotting teeth, and nearly all of the females were pregnant.
The Town of Albion, the Whitman County Sheriff's Department, Paws and Claws Pet Rescue in Pasco, Zelda's Pet Grooming and others all stepped up to rescue the dogs.
The code enforcement office got a call about the hoarding situation in April. The sheriff's department dropped off the first batch of dogs in May.
