If you own a home in Prince George’s County, you’ll want to check your property tax bill.

News4 has been investigating complaints from homeowners that they did not correctly receive their homestead tax credit. That caused their bills in spike, in many instances by more than $1,000.

The county said the error affects about 40,000 homeowners and that it has been corrected. But some residents are still concerned that they didn’t receive a corrected bill.

When resident Kevin Walters saw his property tax bill, he knew something was wrong.

“We immediately saw that there was a problem with the bill that was sent in the mail,” he said.

Walters’ bill was $1,300 higher than what his account showed online.
