MARIONVILLE, Mo. (KY3) -The drought is undoubtedly causing a plethora of issues across much of the Ozarks, and for one local apple orchard, it is proving to be a costly year.

Wesley Murphy is the owner of Murphy Orchards in Marionville, Mo. He said that since July, the orchard has irrigated its crops to ensure their health. Despite this, he lost about a third of his Gala apple crop and took losses to other early-season apples.

Because of the excessive irrigation, one of the property’s wells has run dry. He says one morning, he discovered one of the pumps wasn’t working, and after an expensive replacement, the new pump was only able to pull a few drops out.
