MILWAUKEE — St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn won't play again this season as he recovers from a meniscus tear in his right knee.

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol announced after an 8-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday that they were shutting down Winn for the remainder of the season. Winn, who last played on Monday, had been a late scratch from Friday's starting lineup.

“His hope really at the end of the day was to get back home and play in front of the home fans one more time," Marmol said. “He was really aiming for that. We were trying to do everything possible to get him there, but it’s just not recovering the same way it was recovering earlier on in the month.”
