CREOLE, La. (KPLC) - Construction is nearing completion on La. 1143 in Creole.

Crews with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development have been repaving the highway since July. The project consists of patching, milling, and overlaying 7 miles of road.

DOTD is also replacing 22 cross drains and adding shoulders for better maneuvering for large vehicles.

The project costs just over $4 million from federal and state funds.

“You know a lot of these projects, it just depends on a lot of factors in terms of what condition the roadways are in. You know, if there’s funding available to do the work as well. So all those factors play into when roadway improvements can get done,” DOTD Public Information Officer John Guidroz said.

The contractor on this project is Prairie Contracto
