San Francisco police have arrested a man who they said fatally stabbed a father who was walking his son in a crosswalk just yards from an elementary school.
The fatal stabbing was reported at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the father got into an altercation with the suspect. But investigators would not elaborate on what triggered the confrontation or if the victim and his accused killer knew each other.
The San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as 35-year-old Robert Paul Byrd II.
Police said a suspect was arrested at around 8:30 a.m. Friday in Tuolomne County.
After the stabbing, school administrators briefly called for a campus lockdown. The district superintendent said counselors were available to support the victim's family and students.
