Nearly half the Mountain East Conference’s football teams are idle, with West Virginia State, Fairmont State, Frostburg State and Concord all taking the week off.

Charleston, meanwhile, has a stout task planned on Saturday. The Golden Eagles travel to West Alabama for a matchup of 2024 NCAA Division II playoff teams at 2 p.m. in Livingston, Alabama.

Both are also ranked in the top 20 in the coaches poll. Charleston is tied for 18th and West Alabama checks in at No. 17.

Charleston (1-1) carries the league’s top defense in yards allowed per game (319.5), rushing yards (110.5), first downs (14 per game) and touchdowns down south, according to an MEC news release.

The challenge it will face is a Tigers (2-0) offense putting up 32.5 points and 356 yards per game through two weeks.
