BIDDEFORD, Maine - On Thursday , police received a threat that there was an explosive device at the home of Speaker of the Maine House Ryan Fecteau, according to an email from his office.
The letter goes on to say that police found there was no credible threat to Fecteau or the public.
The threat comes the day after political activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at a speaking event at a college campus in Utah, and as political violence is on the rise in the United States.
In a statement, Fecteau wrote in part, “The division in our nation is worsening, with a growing tendency to equate party affiliation or policy positions with inherent evil. Political differences are escalating to violence, taking lives in Minnesota and Utah, and instilling fear across the country.”
