West Coast fans won’t like it but Matilda Banfield is confident she will get her uncle, Eagles legend Drew, in purple ahead of Sunday’s western derby.

Banfield said it was a “dream” to play her first game in the derby, especially given the banter with her uncle.

The youngster was confident she could get the AFL premiership star into purple for her first game with Fremantle and said he had already messaged to congratulate her on the news.

“It’s kind of a running joke, but he’s been really supportive, and I love Freo, so I’m very happy to be a part of it,” Banfield told The West Australian.

“I haven’t talked to him yet, but he sent me a message and I think I’ll see him tomorrow to give me some tips which will be very helpful. Hopefully, he’ll be wearing some Freo merch.
