ELLSWORTH -- The Houlton Shires and Ellsworth Eagles went to battle in a wild back-and-forth matchup on Friday night.
Starting in the third quarter, on the opening kickoff the Eagles' offense was ready to take the field when the ball bounced awkwardly off of a returner and was recovered by Shires' freshman Isaac Watson, who in turn gave Houlton great field position.
The Shires would take advantage of that field position as quarterback Hunter Sanford would bulldoze his way into the endzone for the touchdown, giving Houlton the lead.
On the next Eagles' possession quarterback Wyl Renwick dropped back to pass but was immediately pressured by the Shires defense, who forced him to throw deep down the field as he was being hit, but miraculously, senior Ripley Strout pulled the ball to his c
