Regarding the plan to rebuild the Hilliard Road Bridge (“ The olden arches: Generations served, but they’re going away ,” Aug. 28), the need for replacement of the bridge over Rocky River Reservation is apparent: Safety netting protects drivers and pedestrians from debris falling into the valley below.

However, one statement in The Plain Dealer story should stop the reader cold: “ The new bridge will have one lane for vehicles in each direction, instead of the current two lanes each way.”

While the planned eleven-foot, extra-wide sidewalk is nice for birdwatchers and photographers, it comes at the cost of funneling hundreds of cars on the two-lane-each-way Rocky River side of the bridge into a single lane of traffic.
