The families of two innocent women killed during high-speed pursuits have joined a growing chorus demanding the shutdown of Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s downtown patrol unit – which continues to operate despite mounting evidence of its recklessness.
On cleveland.com’s Today in Ohio podcast, hosts Chris Quinn and Leila Atassi delivered a blistering critique of county leadership for failing to take action.
“The council is pathetic because they haven’t dealt with this. This required quick action,” Quinn said. “This is a disaster of a unit. People are dead, innocent people are dead because of the recklessness of this unit.”
Atassi explained how the families of Sharday Elder and Tamya Westmoreland – both killed during 100 mph pursuits through city streets – appeared before the council alongs
