Fruita Monument softball picked up a marquee win Thursday over arch-rival Grand Junction in walkoff fashion.

After six and a half innings at Colorado Mesa Thursday night, the teams were tied in a scoreless battle thanks in part to strong performances from both starting pitchers.

It appeared as though the game would remain scoreless and head to extra innings after Grand Junction pitcher Kloe Donahue struck out the first batter of the seventh inning and immediately coaxed a lineout from Fruita’s Clara Denton Baleztena.

Down to their last out of the inning, the Wildcats’ eight-hole hitter, senior Addison Hopper, stepped to the plate.
