SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

The Aerospace Museum of California is set to host its Girls in Aviation Day, which aims to inspire young women to take flight toward an inspiring career.

Event organizer Christine Gibbs and pioneering aviator Merryl Tengesdal joined KCRA 3 on Friday morning to talk more about the event and what it offers.

Gibbs said the event came about to help empower the youth and explore pathways into aerospace and aviation.

"So I work really hard to go to schools from Stockton up to Shasta-Trinity, east to Tahoe, to bring these career options to them," Gibbs said. "Because they don't know about them. They think it's about being a pilot or an astronaut, but it's so much more."
