Destiny always seemed to pull Darryle Ware back to his childhood and The Citadel.

His father had graduated from the downtown military school in the 1990s and his mother grew up in the shadows of Johnson Hagood Stadium — home of the Bulldogs.

Ware himself spent most of his youth growing up near King Street, going to football and basketball games with his father.

After spending three years at South Carolina , where he played in 20 games from 2020-22, and another season at FCS East Texas A&M in 2023, Ware still had a year of eligibility remaining.

Ware yearned to be closer to home, and playing for his father’s alma mater seemed like the next logical step for former Fort Dorchester High School standout.

The only issue was that Ware had been out of football for a full year.
