Ed Deeb was many things to lots of people.

The 89-year-old business and community leader who died Sept. 2 was Detroit’s version of Henry Kissinger. He was a peacemaker, the go-to guy called on by mayors, governors and others when they needed help facilitating prickly community issues.

His knack for diplomacy helped douse the embers of thorny issues he was asked to help with. It was a skillset he learned working in his parents' convenience store.
