The federal government has been urged to rapidly establish an envoy to combat the rising scourge of anti-Indian racism, but some community groups are concerned confusion over Indian multiculturalism and the influence of the Hindu Council of Australia could limit the remit to followers of the faith.

After last month’s anti-immigration March for Australia rallies targeted Indian migrants, and inflammatory comments from Liberal senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price in the past fortnight, the Hindu Council has reiterated its call for the establishment of a special envoy.
