Javin Bailey returned a fumble recovery 40 yards for a touchdown Friday night as Statesville upended Alexander Central 27-14 in nonconference action.
Bailey’s score extended the Greyhounds’ lead to 21-7.
The Cougars got within 21-14 with 5:36 left in the fourth quarter after Adian Baity’s 6-yard TD pass from Colton Pierce.
Statesville put the game away with Tyreek Carter’s 19-yard TD run with 1:32 remaining.
Jaikoda Harrington rushed for a TD as well. MJ Gladden completed 8 f 16 passes for 133 yards, including a 7-yard TD to Chance Taylor late in the second quarter to give the Greyhounds a 14-7 lead at halftime.
Carter and Santario White each supplied 47 rushing yards for the Greyhounds.
