A section of Manchester Airport was evacuated today due to a suspected gas leak, prompting a swift response from emergency services. Fire engines and airport security were deployed to the scene, as alarms rang out in the background. Video footage captured at the airport’s visitor centre showed large numbers of staff and visitors exiting the building, heading towards the Runway Visitor Park.

Witnesses reported that around 100 people were evacuated from the area. Kevin Todd, who was at the airport with his son, described the situation as "organised chaos". He stated, "It was evacuating 80-100 people waiting in the car park. People were just told to move out of the way with no assistance." Todd also noted a "horrific smell" that lingered for about 20 minutes before the alarm was activated, comparing it to "rotting sewage". He added that staff appeared confused about the evacuation.

According to reports, the evacuation was a precautionary measure following a suspected gas leak in one of the kitchens at the visitor centre. A witness confirmed the presence of three fire engines and two fire and rescue vehicles at the scene, stating, "The whole buildings around the Visitor Centre have been evacuated as far as we know, or we've been made aware of everyone to move away into the car park due to a gas leak."

The incident has since been resolved, with authorities confirming that the situation is under control. The airport has resumed normal operations following the precautionary evacuation.
