OREM, Utah — The widow of Charlie Kirk, a prominent right-wing activist, vowed on Friday to continue her husband’s work following the capture of his alleged assassin. Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced the arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson during a press conference, stating, “We got him.” Robinson was reportedly turned in by his father after being confronted about security camera images.

Kirk, 31, was shot while speaking to a large audience at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. In a heartfelt video address, Erika Kirk mourned her husband, calling him “the perfect father” and “the perfect husband.” She expressed her determination to keep his legacy alive, saying, “The evil-doers responsible for my husband’s assassination have no idea what they have done. You have no idea the fire that you have ignited within this wife; the cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry. The movement my husband built will not die. It won’t. I refuse to let that happen.”

Kirk’s murder has dominated news coverage for the past 48 hours, prompting former President Trump to order flags to be flown at half-mast. Kirk was known for his divisive views on various issues, including race, gender, and gun ownership, but even critics acknowledged his willingness to engage in debate.

Details about Robinson began to emerge on Friday. He comes from a Republican family in a conservative town and is currently in his third year of an electrician apprenticeship. Photos surfaced showing him posing with firearms and dressed in a Halloween costume that appeared to depict him riding on Trump’s shoulders.

Authorities took 33 hours to arrest Robinson. They found the alleged murder weapon, a high-powered hunting rifle, in a wooded area near the university. Initially, police detained and later released two individuals who were not connected to the case. After releasing details about the suspect’s clothing and movements, the FBI received a tip from a family member of Robinson, leading to his arrest at 10:00 PM on Thursday.

Robinson is being held on suspicion of aggravated murder and is expected to face formal charges soon. Utah has the death penalty for such offenses, a punishment that Trump has expressed support for. Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA in 2012, was a significant figure in promoting conservative views among young people. He utilized platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube to advocate for anti-immigration policies, Christianity, and gun rights, while also sharing edited clips of his college debates.
