A former Garfield County judge has pleaded guilty to charges connected to a drive-by shooting that occurred in 2023.

Investigators said 59-year-old Brian Lovell fired a gun at his brother-in-law's home in Bison on February 12, 2023. Two days later, Lovell reported a firearm stolen from his vehicle.

Lovell was indicted by a multi-county grand jury in May 2024 on counts of using a vehicle to facilitate the discharge of a firearm and discharging a firearm into a dwelling. Lovell faced separate charges in Austin, Texas, where prosecutors accused him of shooting at parked cars during a road rage incident later that year.
