Brian Walshe , the Cohasset man charged with killing and dismembering his wife on New Year’s Day 2023 in the couple’s home, was attacked in jail and briefly hospitalized Thursday night, officials said.

The Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that “an individual in custody” at the Dedham jail was “treated for non-life-threatening injuries after being assaulted inside one of the facility’s housing units” shortly before 10 p.m.

The statement didn’t name the detainee, but a law enforcement source with knowledge of the incident confirmed the victim was Walshe. The source requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.
