Two potential home buyers in Ohio discovered a “badly decomposed” body while on a self-guided home tour in a vacant house

Local police said the body appeared to have been there “for a very long period of time”

Two potential home buyers made a grisly discovery while touring a house in Ohio.

Police officers were dispatched to an address on Delphos Ave. in Dayton just after 10 a.m. local time on Wednesday, Sept. 10, on the report of a “suspicious circumstance,” Dayton Police Lt. Eric Sheldon told PEOPLE in a statement.

"Human remains in an enhanced state of decomposition were located inside the home," Sheldon said.
