CAPE CORAL, Fla. — At a 9/11 memorial held at the Cape Coral Fire Department's Station 11, attendees were surprised when a bald eagle paid them an unexpected visit.

The bird landed moments after attendees held a moment of silence on Thursday morning in memory of the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

"A bald eagle proudly landed on the fire station,” the fire department wrote in a Facebook post. The eagle let out a “screech to announce her presence, and stayed for a while before gracefully flying away."

For the Cape Coral firefighters, this was "an incredible symbol of patriotism, freedom, community, and hope on this tragic day in our nation's history."
