Immigrants in the country illegally longer than 30 days will now have to register with the federal government and carry documentation.

“This isn’t the first time that it’s been used. It was used after 9/11. And Muslims were mandated to go and register,” Murad Awawdeh, president and CEO of New York Immigration Coalition, said.
