EVANSVILLE, Ind. — An Evansville construction owner is behind bars after police say he stole nearly $10,000 from an elderly couple.

According to a release from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office , an 85-year-old woman contacted the sheriff's office's criminal investigations section after discovering someone had drained her bank account.

The woman told police that she and her husband hired 33-year-old Matthew William Martin of Matthew Martin Construction to perform small jobs at their home. She said they typically paid Martin between $75 to $300 for the jobs.
