A new study has found how long the average American household in each state would have to save for Christmas—and it's bad news for some.

While summer has only just begun to draw to a close, many families will already be thinking about Christmas, and the costs associated with it: gifts, travel, nights out and food, to give just a few examples.

With 15 weeks to go, people are already starting to save—but according to the new study, they might have wanted to start far earlier.

An analysis by the financial information platform Finanzas Justas worked out how long the average American household would need to save for an average Christmas spend.

They started with the average consumer holiday spend in the U.S.—calculated at around $902 per person, according to the National Retail Federation—
