WASHINGTON, D.C., USA — Monday night, 40-year-old Gerson Lopez was stopped by police at the intersection of 13th and Farragut Streets Northwest. His family says not long after he was stopped, federal agents arrived followed by a 45-minute interrogation. Then Lopez was arrested. Dozens of neighbors were outside watching and recording video as Lopez was taken into custody.

His sister, Estrella Lopez, says officers claimed he failed to stop at this intersection. She says Gerson and his family have been in the country six years.

“Agents just kept asking, ‘what’s your status?’ and ‘are you here illegally?’ and my brother didn’t answer those questions, so I guess they just assumed that he was here illegally," said Estrella Lopez.
