EVANSTON, Ill. — After his team’s 34-14 win at Northwestern, Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning spoke for nearly four minutes about Wednesday’s murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and about gun violence.

He urged people to learn from sports teams: how players and coaches from different backgrounds and belief systems can come together to form a team and love one another.

“I think the U.S. could learn a lot from our locker room,” Lanning said. “I think the people of the world could learn a lot from our locker room. You walk into that locker room, you’ve got guys of different races, guys of different backgrounds, different religions. And you’ve got a team that loves each other.”

The team, Lanning said, doesn’t let its “tons of differences” get in the way.
