EVERGREEN, Colo — A shooting at Evergreen High School occurred one day after parents questioned school administrators about the absence of a full-time school resource officer during a Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) meeting, according to the PTSA president and the meeting minutes published on the PTSA's website .

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the school's assigned SRO is currently on medical leave, leaving the campus with shared part-time coverage. Deputies said they responded to the school within two minutes of 911 calls and located the shooter within five minutes of dispatch on Wednesday.

"A mom sitting next to me said directly to Dr. Artes, 'Why does Evergreen High School not have an SRO?'" Evergreen High School PTSA President Cindy Mazeika said,
